Summer Stretch
by Jim Lyon, senior pastor
It’s summer time “and the livin’ is easy” … well, maybe not exactly “easy,” but summer does offer a change of pace. Most of us will find some vacation days (daze?) with which we can interrupt the ordinary routines of the year and take a break. And, even if you don’t have some days off on your calendar, there’s something about summer that invites an afternoon in the hammock or a little time spent in a park or at poolside on a sunny day.
It’s those moments that beg for a good book—something that can take our mind into new territory, something to read that stretches or comforts or startles or encourages us. For the last few years, I’ve recommended a summer reading list in my pastor’s column. Here’s the 2008 edition. Yes, yes, I know that my interests may not exactly be your “cup of tea,” but still I think there’s something in each of these books you’ll find worthwhile.
From the Board of Elders
As we celebrate our One Year Anniversary at Madison Park, we gratefully thank you for your faithfulness in giving of your time, prayer and financial contributions.
The Dreams Work initiative, introduced last fall, encourages every individual, each follower of Christ, to grow in the area of stewardship—of giving to God gifts of time, talents and finances. The financial goal of Dreams Work is to pay down $4 million of the existing debt, freeing thousands of dollars for ministry. Every dollar saved on interest payments is released for ministry—for changing lives exponentially at home and around the world.
The faithful financial support of the Dreams Work initiative has enabled many ministries to serve our community and the world at large. Not only has Madison Park and our community been influenced and changed by this campaign, many global ministries have also seen the love of Christ through contributors who have given a portion of their pledge to support the mission abroad.
If you are giving to Dreams Work, remember that 10% of your contributions for this campaign may be designated toward funding our mission’s effort abroad. If you wish to designate a portion of your gift toward missions or have any questions about your pledge, please contact Rob Spaulding at the Church Office.
If you made a commitment to Dreams Work, but have not begun to contribute, it’s not too late to begin. And if you are new to Dreams Work, or have not made a pledge, please prayerfully consider making a sacrificial commitment, remembering that this gift is above and beyond a regular tithe. Commitment cards are available at the Information Center and Church Office.
Thank you for your financial support and your passion for sharing the greatest story ever told—in Madison County and beyond.
