Climbing “Tacoma”
by Jim Lyon, Senior Pastor
The Native Americans called it “Tacoma,” “the mountain that was God.” For hundreds of miles in every direction, it commands the horizon on sunny days, towering over lesser peaks and the jagged edges of the Cascade Mountains in Washington. It is, of course, Mt. Rainier—at 14, 410 feet, the highest point in the 48 contiguous states. And, I want to climb it.
I’ve been challenged to give it a try, anyway. Phil’s a guy in our church who dared me to climb it with him two years ago. We’re both the same age, but he’s in better shape–a lean machine in a way that I’m not. Still, I do run 30 miles every week … maybe, just maybe I could try Oh well, neither of our schedules worked out and the whole idea fell by the wayside.
Costumes and Trunks and Treats, Oh My!
Forget running from house to house trick or treating as Madison Park Church hosts hundreds of neighboring friends at its eighth annual Trunk-N-Treat on Friday, October 31. Decorated cars and trucks transform the parking lot into an exciting festival, making it one of our church’s most successful community events. Cars, trucks, vans and sometimes tents are decorated with themes from popular kid’s cartoons, television shows, sports and Bible story themes. Others decorate with a harvest theme or recreate an era.
