A Double Passion

What do Dove Harbor, nine bicycle riders, local caring businesses, and Xenia, Ohio have in common? They all come together for four days of bicycling and raise money for Dove Harbor – and this year was a good one! The 200-mile ride raised over $9,200 for Dove Harbor; MPC’s Christ-centered transitional home for women and their children.

The first Dove Harbor Benefit Ride in 2004 ignited a passion for combining the love of bicycling and the ministry of Dove Harbor. Mike and Pauline Flowers have participated in four of the five Dove Harbor rides and declare this to be “the greatest ride yet! The rain hindered the first day ride but not the fellowship.”

Each rider provides for their own expenses and is challenged to raise a minimum of $300 in sponsorship of Dove Harbor. Often participants far exceed the challenge, and this year was no exception!

Carolyn Speedy, part of the three member camp crew reflects on the experience and said that, “Nobody went hungry as they prepared and provided food along the ride and at the camp site. Being together with a group of people focused on a common love of bicycling, camping and Dove Harbor bonded them in purpose and fellowship. The nightly devotions and sharing highlighted each day’s experience.”

The 2009 bicycling team of nine riders and three camp crew collected pledges and gifts to help the Harbor continue its strong witness to women who desire to make positive life changes following tough life challenges. Since the 2004 ride, over $40,000 has been raised by the riders, thanks to the generous support of many individuals and businesses. This year we would like to thank the following corporate sponsors: W.R. Dunkin, Two Guys and a Truck, Carpenter Realtors, Perkins Restaurant, Royal Flush Plumbing, Sunshine Auto Sales, Canada Foot Clinic, Gwinn’s Drug Store, Frazier’s Dairy Maid, Connecticut Electric, State Farm Insurance, Hydrotech, and AirBouyant for their wonderful donations and to Squeeze Play Sports who donated our t-shirts.

What can 12 people do to make a difference in our community? Use their passion and gifts, in unique ways, to help and benefit others in need – at home and around the world. For more information contact Keith Stork, Outreach and Missions Pastor.
